UNIX and me

My first need at the moment is to get enough exposure on the Unix working environment....
I started off with the basic commands like the ls, ls -lut, rm, mv, date, cp, uniq, sort, whoami, who, grep, mkdir,
editor(ed, gedit, vi), ps, ">"file, ">>"filename, "<","<<"files, pr, cat, head, tail, echo,cd, pwd, su,chmod,chown, du ,
pipes, processes etc...

Some of the facts that really interested me are:
echo * would work the same way as ls command would.
One could tailor the Terminal appearance etc..by editing the ".bashrc" file.
Type:

$ gedit .bashrc

You would find a file which has quite a lot of information....By typing in the following one can get the later said outputs:

PS1 = 'Welcome:'
date
echo "Welcome NARAYANAN to the TERMINAL"

and save the file. Exit the current terminal and restart a new terminal..you'll find the following changes in the terminal environment:

Welcome: Dec 13 18:45:35 EST 2007
Welcome NARAYANAN to the TERMINAL
Welcome:

ok...now I am quite free to do a bit of blogging.

Last one month, I was packed with less sleep, tension, and restlessness (reason:my 3rd semester university exams ). 4th December I had my OOPs lab exam...this day would be counted as one of my tensed moments in life....I managed to get the output atlast. The question was to enter the details of n employees into a class using array of pointers, increment their basic pay if they had more than 10 years of experience and to display the details.
On 12th Dec, I had my electronics circuits lab exam...phew....what a day!!! I had to design a circuit that would help me to get the output as needed in the question paper ... Quite a simple one theoretically...I just needed a negative clipping circuit at -2.4V and then a full wave rectification to get the desired output. It looked so simple and after setting up the elegant circuit the day seemed quite wonderful..I was about to get the output without much difficulty....alas!!! alternate half cycles of the wave seemed to have disappeared....the examiner said practically
that circuit wouldn't give me or anyone the required output...and got a partial output.
I messed up the viva also after I was bombarded with questions related to the specifications regarding the diodes etc....
Forget the entire incidents of the day.....I was finally having a few days off without the need of any studies ...the door to the 4th semester waiting for me... it had been just 1 year and 2 months since I had joined for my Btech courses. I had lot of plans for my vacation........
